I don't know about other fluids, but antifreeze is a killer of these belts.
So if you leak or overflow and it hits your belt, it's life will be over
sooner than expected.

Subject: DML: I think my serpentine belt is cracking

Well, this morning I was finishing up the wiring on my fan (only 3 weeks
after starting) and took a close look at my belt, for what reason, I
don't know. Looks like it's starting to crack. Very small cracks right
now, across the belt. It'll turn 24K tomorrow. This seems like an
awfully short lifespan on a belt.

I haven't had a chance to check my warranty yet; is this a covered item,
or is it considered a "wear item?" If it's not under warranty, I'll
just replace it myself. But this thing should NOT be cracking after 18
months and 24K miles.
