Heh; not even the "experts" know what's bad for the environment. :-P
Cats clean up some by-products, but release nitrous oxide as a side
effect. (bad for environment) The govt's wonderful "clean gas" is
now contaminating ground water nationwide. Plus, I'm sure everyone has
heard the whole "volcano eruption" comparison before. IMHO, one less
cat isn't going to hurt ma nature one bit... Oops, I fear this has
wandered into the off topic realm, lets see if I can steer it back. :-)

Check your local laws as far as inspections go. You may want
to fab up an "offroad pipe" which will allow you to swap your
cat in and out for inspections. (Also allows you to test for
performance differences.) Or, perhaps you could weld some sheet
metal to the pipe to create something that looks like a cat. ;-)
You live in VA, don't you? I'd be really interested to see the
results of the sniffer without the cat. (Or with vs. without.)
I've thought about heading over the border to Ontario one of
these days and seeing if I can get a shop to administer a
sniffer test on my Dak. :-)
