For straight line acceleration there is no comparison between an open diff. and
a locked or lsd diff in bad weather... Ya' just git up and go with a locked or
lsd setup. The turning thing is really just something you have to be aware of
and exercise due caution. As far as losing any low end when wheels are
spinning, I don't know what they are talking about or how that makes sense.
Clearly you have a better chance of "hooking-up" if both wheels are being
driven. Moreover, with an open diff. the amount of power provided to the
non-spinning wheel is negligible or almost zero.

Alright, im lookin at gettin a locker, maybe a lock-right? For crappy
weather like rain, ice, snow, is it better to have 1 tire turn? Or better
to have both turn granted you might slide to the side a little? The shop i
talked to said your gonna lose some low end cause both wheels will be
locking and spinning, true? thanks
