Shock Absorber Question

I'm in the market for a set of shocks for my '00 4x4
Durango, and after reading Bernd's comments about the
ProComp shocks, I've decided to give them a try.
However, their website does not show a listing for
99-00 Durangos.

I e-mailed them and a tech responded that thet didn't
think the '98 shocks would work on a 99-00 Durango
because DC changes to a rack and pinion steering
system.

Now, call me stupid, but why would a change in the
type of steering system precipitate a change in
shocks? Unless DC changed the lower control arm
mounting point for the shocks and/or the upper shock
perch, there shouldn't be any difference, should
there?

After looking at several other shock manufacturer's
websites, I believe 98, 99, and 00 shicks are
interchangeable. Here's why... Edelbrock lists the
same shocks for 98 and 99, but none for 00. Shock
Warehouse shows that every '98 and '99 shock for the
durango as being identical. The only listing they
have for a '00 is Bilstein, and they have the same
numbers as the '99's.

Clear as mud yet???

The ProComp tech's reasoning that the shocks are
probably different (his words) from 98 to 99-00 was
that Rancho's lift kit for the durango had different
shocks from '98 to '99.

HELP!!!!!!
