Its IN!!! and I just need a few odds and ends
to complete the setup. Some of the benefits I've
noted without even starting up the engine...BTW,
this was a '98 318 :

1. A new distributor cap was easily installed and
you can actually see it. I would love to have a
clear plastic one like I had in high school. :)

2. The MPI has to be 20 lbs lighter than the beerbarrel.

3. So much more room to run wires etc..

4. TB gasket trimming and aligning is a breeze with
the TB adapter being removable. I think I'll make
a gasket for this, instead of using RTV. To practicle
   to remove for cleaning etc..

5. The MPI is absolutely beautiful sitting between the heads!!

Some small downsides:

6. Very labor intensive, but not to bad.
What would take some people 6 hrs...hmmm??took
me 4 days of very slow meticulous work and then
   there was the foil incident...Trottm..?

7. The A/C compressor fits super close to the
thermostat housing, lots carefull dremel use here.

8. The A/C, Alt bracket requires a little more
cutting to clear the WP bypass hose.

9. The MPI needs alot of cleanup work from the factory.
The casting is rough, but not as bad as the stocker.

1 small horror story on the install which would have
been tragic....I installed the MPI and started to torque
down the bolts when I glanced at the waste basket and saw
a small piece of aluminum foil...YIKES! This GOOFBALL
forgot to remove the aluminum foil he spread out in the
lifter valley to catch gasket trash. Can you imagine
leaving this stuff in there?!!Words cannot discribe
the feeling of being a self proclaimed idiot. So off
went the manifold and out comes the foil...ARGGHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lucky for me nothing was disturbed, not even the gaskets.
Just had to re-RTV the ends. Many thanks to Jon Steiger
for his install instructions on the DML. Can't wait to
get this thing started!!!
