Pinging is bad bad bad! He probably needs a higher grade of gasoline to
begin with. My guess is the Hypertech advanced his timing by at least 5º.
That may not be all of his problems, though. I don't know what else the
Hypertech does in the way of maps and fuel tables, etc.

Subject: DML: HyperTech PCM

Hey guys! I was a list subscriber a while back and I unsubed due to email
load. Now I'm back in digest form! Anyhow, buddy of mine just purchased a
Hypertech PCM for his 5.9 Quad Cab 4x4. From what I could tell there was a
little improvement overall but the thing I noticed most was PINGING. I mean
really, really, bad. Only other mods are custom intake, gibson exhaust, and
throttle body spacer. I tried checking the archives for Hypertech related
material but all I pull up is dated info before and during the HT recall.
So what's the current opinion on HT? Is this pinging normal? Is HT junk?
I've got a 99 318 4x4, will I see similar pinging? And should there be a
very noticable difference ? Thanks in advance!!
