New Venture Gear layoffs

Hey folks,

Tonight on the news one of the big stories is 260 layoffs at the New
Venture Gear plant here in Syracuse, NY. NVG makes, among other things,
our transfer cases. One story was kind of general about it; the had
quite a bit from an employee who says the layoffs are primarily the
result of shutdowns at other NVG plants such as Belevedere, IL. which
use parts made here in Syracuse. The layoffs could last as little as a
few weeks or as long as 6 months.

What's really interesting (to me) is they're doing the layoffs in
reverse seniority order; they're asking those who are most senior FIRST,
rather than playing the "low man on the totem pole" game. These work
stoppages seem to be product-line specific.

Just thought I'd share. Maybe Pete can shed some more light on the
situation, and what, if anything, it could mean for DC or Dakota
production. Pete, mind if I ask if your job is relatively safe?
