I am sure there is some drag, but I have noticed when a electric fan turns on the drag
on the alternator slows the idle speed slightly. The hydraulic fan did not seem to
slow the idle speed on the Camray V6 at all. Also the electric fans are somewhat noisy
and the hydraulic fan was so quiet the hood had to be open to hear it at all. I am
sure that the hydraulic fan is more expensive though.
