The clear ones are definitely not DOT approved (and are illegal) but I don't
think they're causing the problems. It's the ones that are partially clear
with some red reflective plastic that, at one time, was labeled DOT approved
by APC. All the dealers labeled it DOT approved as well, following APC's
lead, not a good thing, because the DOT said they never approved it.

The Euro Tails, however, are DOT approved (that's what I hear, will
investigate), but are not available for Dodge's yet. APC indicates
availability after the 1st of the year (wouldn't hold my breath). Jim
Harmon (DTOA) is researching sooner availability from a different source.

Subject: DML: Legal info on clear tails

I found out today that JC Whitney has been ordered by the Feds to "Cease
& Desist" further sales of any clear tail-lamps. These lamps were
"unloaded" on Whitney by APC just before this happened. I am guessing
that APC was warned that they would be getting the same letter, so while
the lamps still had some value, they dropped them on Whitney, who now
owns a bunch of useless tail-lamps.

That's all the info I have, but it sounds interesting.

Jack
