To be honest with you, I'm not really sure that they ever messed with it.All
I am going on there is the articles I read on the '00 quad cabs in which one
of the features/upgrades/improvements listed was "greater shift refinement
can be found with the 5-spd".I personally think that this is something
chrysler just stuck that in there because it sounded good and that the new
4.7L motor is different to drive with the 5-spd, so they could pass it off
as an improvement.Yours will take 2nd at 50-60 mph? Wow,mine won't even take
3rd and would whine a little at taking 4th at those speeds.I have driven all
kinds of trucks and tractors for a long time and I'm telling you, it jus
doesn't want to go into reverse sometimes after that trip.I've tried
double-clutching,holding the shifter against the reverse synchro and easing
out the clutch,and no go.My dodge service is something special.2 of my good
friends work down at the dodge dealer.One works the parts counter,and the
other is an appointent maker/your car's finished phone call making
guy.Anyway, Scott,the service writer/manager down there told me "I don't
care if you blow the SOB up on nitrous,bring it back and I will fix it" Now
that's service! Scott's a great guy and he is serious about helping me
out.My best friend has a '99 silverado-5.3,4L60E,3.73 gear reg.cab 2wd.We
put a power programmer,airaid,throttle body,mass-air sensor,true
duals,lowered 4/6,etc.Nice truck,but the egr valve went out one day.We took
it down and left it with Scott(he doesn't let anybody else drive our trucks
when they are there,since we both have really nice vehicles and they never
come in there dirty).He called us on my cell phone within the hour!!(this is
not uncommon for us, he usually has in&out within a few hours even with no
appointment) and said "ok, it's done".I took Brad back down there.Scott took
us back in the service area,showed us the old valve,showed us the work they
had performed(he only lets the senior tech work on our trucks,no rookies).We
said great, thanks! Brad cranked his truck up,it had 0.1 more miles on it
than when we left, but the check engine light was still on.He jumped out and
asked Scott-"hey, what's this?" Scott said "Don't you have the computer
reprogrammed with a power programmer? We didn't reset the mil or computer to
avoid messing up your custom settings." Now that's COOL! So,I went and got
the programmer from his house,brought it back and we offloaded the custom
program,saved it, let them reset what they had to,and reprogrammed it right
there in the freaking service bay! So,anyway, about the warranty issues with
different fluid? I don't think I will have any.Do you recommend going 50/50
or should I go full redline? I will be back home the 15th or so of
december,so I will probably get Scott to go ahead and just swap my tranny
out.Oh yeah, another thing,he lets me& Brad help work on our trucks.I just
hang out down at the shop sometimes.I have helped put 4 of these trannys
in,so I know how it goes.Can do it in about 1 hr now.If it does get
replaced,I will be replacing that T/O bearing!

Will, my question would be has New Venture Gear upgraded the
3500 after 98 or 99? Your tranny dosen't sound like it operates 100%
like the one I have. Gearing down to 1ST after shifting from 2ND is no
problem while moving, I don't have to stop. I can gear down in second
from 5th doing 50-60 mph with no problem ;) other than decellaration
trama. I've done it! But not on purpose. As far as getting into reverse,
trannys have their little quirks and sometimes I have to depress the
clutch a little at the top to get it in, but very, very seldom. The horrible
whining noise dosen't sound Kosher to me. The only noise I hear is a
whining coming from the engine unless I'm stopped at a light in neutral.
Then you can hear that famous OEM thro-out bearing. If your local
Dodge service has done all it can do, then I would try the 50/50 mixture
of MTL and Mopar fliud for a few thousand miles and see if you can
tell a difference. Yes I could tell, 41k and it still shifts smooth. Just
keep
in mind you never know how a Dodge serv center will react in warranty
situations. One more thing, I never have to consistantly skip a gear
because it won't go in. Oh I've had problems super speed shifting before,
but rarely at normal to fast operation. With the MTL and a normal tranny
the shifts will feel a little bit notchy the first few shifts then it should
get
smoother as it warms up, even in cold weather.
