Yes, you are making sense, stumble or not the engine is spinning
at a certain RPM for a given speed. You will not see a significant
drop in RPM's until you have a near total loss of power.

stumble, the tach cannot respond that fast and is simply "averaging" all
the misses, and making the rpm`s look "smoother" than they are? Am I
