One of my good friends is a locksmith. To obtain the codes for cutting keys
he had to call a 800# and give them his Cert#.
And then after opening the car if he had any doubts he would ask them for
proof of ownership. Then he would write down the License# off the car and
that persons license. although ferd and chebby had things called try keys
which was a ring with 100+ keys on it. It was a matter of trying each one
until you find a fit. Also if the ignition has been replaced the vin# does
not correspond w/ the lock. Most of the time he had to pull out the z-tools
open the car remove the steering wheel, pull out the lock and read the
tumblers.
