Same question, why is the 4.7 a detuned motor?

Subject: DML: Spark plug heat range

I have a 2000 Dakota 4 x 4 with the 4.7L, K&N. I'm considering using the
Autolite Platinum plugs. I have been reading the archives concerning spark
plug selection and have a question or two to put out to the group.

How does lowering the plugs temperature improve idle, fuel economy and
power? Why don't they come with the lower temp plugs from the factory?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Patrick
