Weight down the back end of your truck as much as you can (without going
insane with that idea). If you can get some heavy sandbags or something
like that, it would help a lot. The more you weight down the rear tires,
the more traction you will get. Of course, if you're carrying some fairly
heavy luggage with you, that would probably do the job as well. You
need to make up for not having 4wd by getting as much traction out of your
rear wheels as possible.

As for the other tires, if the treads on them are better, they should go
on the rear, IMO. The more tread you have on the back, the better traction
you'll get (especially since the tires you've got on there now are nearly
bald.)
