I've noticed an awful lot of talk about the Lightnings lately. I just thought
I'd share a bit of a run in I had with one a while back. I was in my 94
Pontiac Bonnieville SSE, (with a supercharged 3800 V-6). Well a Lightning was
passing me and I thought I'd see what he had, we were going about 70 or so
and I punched it. I pulled away a little and slowed back down. He came up on
me again this time a little faster, so I punched it again, and so did he.
Well, he was able to pull ahead of me, but just barely. I guess I let up
about 110 or so. I really thought he would have had more than that. My
Pontiac is no race car but has run 9.80s in the 1/8th mile at Ohio Valley
raceway. I was reading my new Hot Rod mag and seen where the new Lightnings
are rated at 380hp. Now that is impressive even if it is a Ford. I seen one
last summer run 9.40s with a temp tag in the window. My Dakota is only
running 8.60s with a 125hp shot of NOS. So the Lightnings are very Impressive
for a factory truck, but I would never trade my Dak for one. Just my 2 cents
on the Lightnings.
