Sounds like clutch or band slippage.

Subject: DML: Slipping Transmission?

'99 V-6 Auto 13,500 miles

Last week, after what should be an easy tow, my transmission started to act
up. When cold, I notice when shifting from 2 to 3, the engine revs about
400 RPM real quick, then drops back. I took it to the dealer (Bill Butler
in Warner Robins, Ga.) who returned it the same afternoon with a ticket
showing they replaced a solenoid and a transducer. and said their equipment
showed those parts faulty.

You guessed it. When I left, it slipped in the 2-3 shift just like before.
I made a U and went straight back to the dealer. One of the service writers
hopped in with me and we went around the block and it slipped again. He
(the SW) says, that's just a linkage that needs adjusting because it is
shifting into 3rd too quickly. It does almost shift into 3rd immediately
after going into 2nd. They couldn't make the adjustment right then as they
had closed the shop. That linkage may need adjusting, but I do not see why
that would cause a quick 400 RPM surge.

What does the DML say?
TIA, Cal Hyer
