Sounds like you're running out of memory and the swap file is filling up too
quickly. If you're running Windows95/98 on that machine, you're already at
the current memory limit. (8-10MB for just the O/S and another 2-4MB for
"overhead". That leaves 2-6MB for actual memory space...not enough in this
case.)
If you can get it, stick another 32MB into the machine. On the older
machines that take FP or EDO, you'll need to add them in pairs. (If you can
afford an extra 64MB, you'll notice a big difference in performance.)

have an old AST desktop (133mhz processor,16MB ram).I
have an 850 MB "c" drive and 1 gig "d" drive in
it,with a 56k modem.The computer does OK,but MP3 files
will not play continuously,they keep stopping every
other second or so.They download fine,but keep hanging
up when I play them.(I do have a 16 bit sound
card,also.) Another thing,whenever I play an MP3
file,any commands take FOREVER to respond,and usually
won`t until the song is over.On the assumption that it
is a memory problem,I checked on the manufacturer`s
website.My computer takes 72-pin non-parity fast page
mode DRAM simms (2mx32-70ns).I`m guessing it uses two
8MB boards.I had the cover off the thing,but I can`t
remember if there were two or three unused simm
slots.I have studied all the memory types on every web
page I can find.I know they make a 72-pin EDO ram
module,would that replace the DRAM modules in mine,or
are they even compatible with my machine? Where can I
find some extra memory boards for this? All I am
wanting to do with it is download MP3s onto my hard
drives,then connect my CD recorder to the analog
outputs of the computer,and make me something to
listen to in the DAK. BTW,yes,I know a new computer
would help,but I can`t afford the new Dell that I want
right now! Gotta wait a couple months at least.
