The original Horizon/Omni engines were 1.6L VW engines, but were changed to
the Chrysler 2.2L within 2 years (Chrysler wasnt done with development when
they launched). All 3.0L V6 engines (used in Minivan, Lebaron Conv/Coupe,
C/Y body New Yorkers/Imperial/Salon/Dynasty, Spirit/Acclaim and
Shadow/Duster) are Mitsu, as well as the 2.6L Hemi 4-banger that was in the
K-car lineup for a few years in the early 80's. The new 2.7L V6 is also a
Mitsu design, but the 3.5L V6 and 4.7L V8 are DC designs.

Chrysler has used Mitsu for years because they couldnt develop the small
motors as quickly and cost effectively, then continued to use them to
fulfill contracts. Its all a matter of dollars, and the Mitsu motors have
proven to be pretty reliable (generally), so why not go with what works.
Doping that allowed them to design the 3.5L and the 4.7L, so maybe it is for
the best!
