Does anybody on the list with a 4.7 have a detonation problem?
Detonation has been a huge problem in the past with magnum motors, but
everything I have read and heard about the 4.7 is that it was done very
conservatively at first BECAUSE of the reputation of the Magnum motors to
have pre-detonation problems.
Part of why the 4.7HO was so anticipated is that the standard 4.7 is so
detuned from the factory.
I race a 4.7 with a jet chip II and find not difference between Premium or
Midgrade. I haven't tried regular with the jet chip. I ran regular fine
without the Jet Chip.
Retarding the timing 4 degrees is a VERY serious detune. I think it needs
to be ascertained for certain that Ma Mopar has done this in the latest
flash upgrade. Understand that flash upgrades are relatively common and
many dealers will flash your computer with the latest upgrade without
warning to you if you bring you vehicle in for other service. This is
great! Unless the flash contains a detune to solve a problem you don't
have!!!
