Great point RE: auto v. manual tranny and how it affects brake wear. My old
Jeep was a stick and I got something like 70 to 80k miles on the front pads as I
recall... Down shifts work miracles for brake life but it was also a much
lighter vehicle.

Hey Bob!

My '92 is on her second set of brakes, although ready for the third. Granted
I am 75% highway and I downshift when possible (you know these damned MI
drivers!) so I would not call the brakes bad at all. I have heard of people
with automatic trannys having to replace the pads fairly often. I don't have
the details though.
