Re: gas tanks (22 gal)

If I fill mine up as soon as the light comes on the tank takes about 17
gallons and the gauge reads about 1/8 of a tank leaving aprox 100 miles (5
gallons) to find a gas station. The light is a low fuel "warning" light,
not a your out of gas light.

I've also yet to find a car where when the gas gauge hits empty that the
tank is empty. I'm estimating (don't plan on proving it) that when I hit
empty I will have about 2 gallons left in the tank. I get around 100 miles
per 1/4 gauge marker. I average over 20 mpg so therefore I'm assuming I'm
using 5 gallons of gas (rounding) per 1/4 gauge marker. Using that logic
when I hit the E line I will have used 20 gallons of gas and have 2 gallons
left (aprox). Like I said, I don't plan on proving this theory. I generally
look to fill up my tank within 20 miles of when the light comes on.
