Hurst shifter update

Well, I've put a whopping 35 miles on my Dak since I installed the Hurst
shifter. I'm still getting used to it, but so far I really like it. That is
except for one thing.
With the way Hurst designed this shifter, the handle is bolted to the
shifter body by two bolts. Everything is supposed to be aligned by a series
of grooves which run the length of the handle for about 3 inches. The holes
in the shifter body are threaded to accept the 3/8" bolts and star washers
are used against the chrome shifter. There are no nuts for the bolts.
In the 35 miles I've driven my Dak (on paved roads), I've had to
retighten those bolts twice. Finally on the 3rd "loosening" I had enough and
went to the local hardware store. There I picked up two 3/8" x 1 1/4" fine
thread bolts, washers and start washers. the 1 1/4" bolts are long enough so
you can attach washers and nuts on the ends. When I reinstalled everything I
used red locktite. Hopefully this combination will hold, but will keep you
informed either way.
The good news in all this is I can have the floor console off, shifter
apart and then everything reassembled in about 15 minutes ;-)
