Octane is the rating at witch fuel burns the higher the rating the slower it burns. What is happening is you have high combustion temps. They do this to lower emissons. But when they get to hot combustion starts on it own and not buy the plug then the two flame fronts meet( 1 combustion by the spark plug and the other on is started by the high temp.). What you have as pinging is the two fronts meeting. This is very hard on motors it can burn vavles and pistons and do all sorts of nasty things. There are a couple of things you can do to prevent this. ( In the old days you would turn the timing down a little) But today with computer controls and stuff you really can not do this.

The best thing I can think of is to run a cooler plug (there has been alot of posting on the Colder Autolite plugs lately). You can also have some carbon build up on you vavles and carbon holds alot of heat.

I would try some intake cleaner. I run factory heat range campion plugs and my truck did the same thing just started knocking a little under load. I cleaned the TB, Intake and vavles and it stoped my knocking.

You also have to recall that the Gas company change there froumla's around in the winter. They do that to save money. If it is colder you do not need the stuff that helps pinging cause of lower intake temps. But in the summer you need more cause of higher intake temps.

Hope that helps It might be hard to understand because of my abuse on the english langange and bad spelling. So if you need more info or need me to explain again I will

Just let me know

Hey Guys,

My V6 Engine has been knocking uphill a little, so I
had a tune up done this Saturday and it was still
knocking. I had been putting octane boost in with the
87 and it still knocked. So today, I just put 89 in
and it DID NOT knock at all. I am still surprised at
the difference.....
