Since you have not mentioned that this occurs at part throttle, I would try
a minor adjustment to the TV cable. You may also want to take it to the
dealer first and have them check if the TV cable is properly adjusted.
I would adjust the TV cable, moving it one notch (about 1/16") towards the rad.
not the firewall. This should take shift point down a few hundred rpms. Don't
go overboard on how many notches you move the cable in either direction
(2, maybe 3, notches at the max.) as it could harm the tranny. Be sure
to write down somewhere the adjustments that you make so that you
know how to reverse your adjustment(s) back to its current setting.
Take a look at the site for more details:
http://www.jcj.net/dodgeram/trans_adjustment.htm
or search the archives under "TV cable".
If adjustments don't help, put back to current settings and do tranny
line pressure tests (will need FSM for these). I have this problem with
manual shifting under WOT at the track. My tests indicate that
either the governor pressure solenoid or the governor pressure sensor
may be the culprit ... hope to find out come opening day at the track.
Hope this helps.
