Maintenance Light Question

I have a friend with a V6 '90 Dakota. He says there is a maintenance light
on his dash that comes on at preset mileage intervals. He'd like to know if
and how to reset it himself. He is currently taking it to the dealer, but
gets screwed for $70 everytime. Is anybody familiar with this light?
