I have the same year and engine,MSD is the best don't take my word for it
just look under the hood of some cars at the track you see very few coils
that aren't red.Headers:I have done alot of research on this on '97, 5.2
dakotas the JBA headers seem to requier a big pry bar and a sledge hammer to
bolt up on the passenger side. Getting the JBA y-pipe will solve this but go
over your budget. I am thinking about buying the Gibson headers and have
heard they fit better(one '97 owner said that they returned a set of JBA's
and got Gibsons because he couldn't get the JBA's to fit-the Gibson's went
on ok). The 14ga headers are steel with crome plating, the 409 are stainless
steel and ss is less likey to crack, ss is a softer metal. One more thing
does your truck have any mods now,if no this is a bad place to start. I have
been building mine up and have been avoiding headers(loud and leaky)but
after computer, cat back, fipk, underdrive pullys, msd, hevily mod TB, posi,
tires & 16'" rims, ias shocks, 8.8 wires, plugs,,,,(not in that order) shift
kit and headers are my next steps.
