George,
It's a little to late to crank over the engine. I neglected to mention with
exception of the heads, everything above and in front of the cam (including
the cam) are missing at this point. But thanks for the advise. If I ever
need to just pull the heads and nothing else, I'll try to remember this.

Try turning in two or so head bolts not quite touching reinstall the plugs
and spin the engine over with the starter the compresion should POP them.
Look at a tork chart and make sure you have ALL the bolts out. Lots of times
people miss one or two under crud!
