  On my '96 318 I have an ATR Y pipe which has 2.5" primaries and a 3"
collector. I just used 3" pipe from there back to the 3" Gibson muffler. (3"
cats are available too). The hardest part of the install is clearing the front
crossmember, as the bigger Y pipe exits *right* in front of it. Originally, I
used a piece of 3" flexible exhaust tubing, but later I had a shop bend up a
pipe to clear. Been meaning to record some sound files one of these days but
haven't had a chance. Well, you can kinda hear it in this video:

  I don't recall the exact setup I had in that video but I'm pretty sure that
was through the ATR Y pipe, 3" all the way back through a Gibson 3" w/no cat.
