more spring rates..attn John

Well ,I double-checked the number of coils in the springs, and it's
definitely 6, which means about 500 lb/in, according to the program. A
friend of mine mentioned that when calculating these things, you don't
count the flattened coils on either end that give the spring a flat
surface to rest on. Is this accurate? If so, then these springs, being
flattnened on the bottom only, have only _5_ coils, which I assume makes
for an even higher and more unbelievable rate. Do all manufacturers use
the same spring steel in their springs? I hope so, otherwise the program
is useless unless you know the alloy used.

PS I test-drove a '00 R/T today. I had to keep it sane cause the
salesman went with me, but even then, I wasn't as impressed as I thought
I would be. I just can't get into column-shifted automatic
transmissions. I guess when I swap out the I4, I'll put in the 4.7L or
the V6, and bolt on a blower. ;)
