In its' return to Winston Cup racing, a Dodge Intrepid sits on the pole for
the Daytona 500. Bill Elliott in the Evernham Racing Dodge Intrepid, turned
in a lap of over 183 mph to win the number 1 spot for next Sundays Daytona
500. It was Dodges first pole at Daytona since 1973. It was also Elliotts'
first pole since 1997. Also turning in great laps were Stacey Compton who was
3rd,Ward Burton 7th, Sterling Marlin 8th. This shows that the teamwork that
the Dodge people put together was the correct way to go. I'm sure that the GM
& Ford teams are already crying their eyes out, with 4 Dodges in the top 8
cars.Evernham was the force behind Jeff Gordons 3 championships, and it
became apparent that he is the man, following the pole run by Bill Elliott
today.
Can't wait till next Sunday!
