Excellent post Mark. I agree with you 100%. Joking around is one thing but
some of the flames and the carrying on of some of these threads is
absolutely ridiculous. With this many members there will come a day when
the list will need to be moderated. I hope it doesn't need to come to that
but I don't see how it won't.

Subject: DML: DML ETTIQUITE (Expanded upon for all)

Thank you Jon for establishing these rules for us.

I believe that they can only make the DML better. I too remember when the
DML was a resource I could not live without. I was very close leaving the
list again, and I hate to bring it up again, but mostly because of the
exploits of "Lightning" Ted O and those who caused a personal flame war with
him, but let us all suffer the effects of it.

Now I have a confession to make, the reason I left the DML a year ago for
four months was because I was getting frustrated with the flames and insults
that flew without regard for decency. I especially was irritated by the
jerks that pushed Jules from Magnum Performance off the list, he was one of
the most knowledgeable people on this list without question, you have to be
when you life revolves around hopping up Magnum equipped vehicles.

The point I am trying to make is that in the past few years the list has
grown and unfortunately attracted a few people that make us all look bad. I
know, as a matter of fact, that there are people watching us from major
magazines, aftermarket suppliers, and even the auto makers. I am not saying
that I am innocent, I have occasionally hit the send button and regretted it
later. Our image has already been tarnished by our actions, what we need to
do is re-gain the respect that we once had and make the DML the standard for
all mailing list in the future. One thing we can do is to not forget that we
are watched by 1000 people, even though sometimes its only about 5% of the
members who actually post.

We are all intelligent adults, we need to portray ourselves as such.

(Now stepping down off the soap-box...)
