This is the reply that I received concerning using synthetic transmission
fluid:

Thank you for your recent e-mail to DaimlerChrysler Motors Corporation.

DaimlerChrysler recommends the use of Mopar Automatic Transmission Fluid
identified as ATF+3 or ATF+3 Type 7176 for optimum transmission
performance. DaimlerChrysler does not recommend the use of synthetic
transmission fluid
