Your local Auto Zone can test your battery and alternator for free, on the
vehicle. You drive up, they test it, you either a) buy something or b) drive
off.

That sounds like a dead battery which could be due to a dead alternator.
Bring it to a shop which can test both.

Hey Guys, is there any way to check an alternator to see if it's dead or
not? On my buddy's vehicle, he hooked up a big amp. Then we suspected a
short, so we unhooked it. No short was found. So we started his car and his
lights were dimmed and everything seemed to run without too much power. we
went around the block 4 times, when we got back the car died... at which
point the car was dead to the world, just clicking when turning the
ignition. So then a few days later we decide to look at the car again. I
turn the key... it fires up... I go around the block and it dies. Does this
seem like a bad alternator? Thanks
