Seems like there's a lot of posts that involve weird noises
coming from the engine . . . well, add this one to the list.
Here's the story:
I rear-ended somebody back in December--pushed the bumper into
the radiator and the radiator into the fan; drained all the
coolant onto the pavement. I had it towed because of that.
Skipping to the point, after I got it back from the body shop I
have been hearing a weird sort of chirping noise from what
sounds like the front of the engine. I guess I should have
taken it back to the body shop, but I thought that maybe it was
just a squeaky pulley or something and I could fix it. Plus, I
didn't want to be without my truck any longer. The weird part
about this noise is that it only happens when the truck is in
motion, not idling (makes it a real pain to track down, huh?),
and also the noise disapears after the engine has warmed up. I
thought these symptoms were indicative of a noisy fan, but as I
said, it doesn't happen at idle. The fan doesn't disengage at
idle right? From what I've noticed, it generally runs for at a
least a couple minutes when you first start up the truck . . .
right? What could this noise be? My main concern is that
something else is damaged that got missed . . . like the water
pump maybe????? Sorry for the long post, but I'd appreciate the
help.
Thanks!
