Before you decide what you want to do, be sure you understand what each of
these options are. The Jet Chip connects in between sensor inputs and the
PCM. In the past there had been some problems with the Jet Chips in that
they would get moisture on the plug or on the chip. Since it's plugged in
between the PCM and the sensors, if the chip doesn't work your truck doesn't
run. As long as the chip is working, it basically alters some of the sensor
inputs to try and do the following things. It can falsify MAP and TPS
readings to cause richer fuel mixtures as well as advanced timing.
Sometimes this works but sometimes the chip doesn't know all the parameters
involved to do this. The reasons vary, for the 4.7 and the 45RFE, these
powertrain components are pretty new and so are the computers that run them.
You know the old saying, "It's not nice to fool Mother Nature".
If you buy the Mopar Performance PCM for the 4.7 when they come out, there
are new fuel tables and new advance curves for timing. In addition the
speed limiter is set to 255. I can't remember what the rev limiter is set
to for the 4.7's, 6000? There is also some changes in the shift logic for
the 45RFE TCM. The AC compressor will also cut off at WOT. You will have
to use 92+ octane fuel. The cost of this HP PCM will be ~$300. Once you
get this you will have two PCM's, the HP one and your original stock one.
You must get the new PCM flashed at the dealer for the VIN and odometer.
The reason for this is because each PCM is made specifically for a certain
powertrain configuration and will not run except in that configuration.
If you get a custom program for your PCM from Mike Leach & Company, you will
basically get what the HP PCM has in it unless you specify certain
parameters to be changed, e.g., you're going to supercharge your engine.
The cost of a custom program is ~$500. You must send them the PCM out of
your vehicle. It will get upgraded and sent back to you. In most cases you
will have to run 92+ octane after the upgrade also.

I think its around $500 for the flash. You can contact Mike Leach Co. at

Also the following was posted on the list in November by Phil Batson after
installing the Jet chip:
Just wanted to let everyone know how the chip worked out in my Dakota.
I have a 4.7 SLT, and before I put the chip in, it seemed a bit "sluggish"
when shifting gears. I have noticed a small increase in acceleration, but
where I really noticed a difference is in the way it shifts now. It is a lot
smoother, and seems to jump into the next gear rather than hesitating like
it did before.
I got some better mpg than I used to when I took it for a small road trip.
But the "city" miles seem to be about the same.
Overall, I'm very happy with it.
