That may explain why sometimes when my engine revs up quickly that it sounds
like the timing advances too far for just a sec...

Rapid MAP changes (as well as TPS changes) can and will cause TEMPORARY open
loop operation. These are called "transients" and are there to help with
driveability problems that WILL occur without them. Shouldn't happen much
tho -
unless you have a bad sensor - or like to jam the accel alot 8-)
