I was just getting ready to send this e-mail when I saw Kyle's. My truck
a, 4.7, 5 spd, '00. I've not had any trouble starting, but she has died
on me. I got the truck about year ago and first really noticed the
problem when it would die while I was on vacation in the mountains. At
the time a discarded the problem, even though it happened about a dozen
times, as a glitch in the truck, operator error of the clutch, or due to
the elevation. Once I returned home it did not die for months, then did
a few times and I took her into the dealership. They could not duplicate
the problem. A month or so later, one day as I was getting of the
highway, going down hill on the exit ramp, with the clutch in and
applying the break as I was approaching the stoplight she died on me. A
few miles down the road again going downhill, clutch in and breaking for
a stop sign she died. When she dies just the tranny light comes on and
she does not have enough momentum to pop the clutch. I took it into the
dealership again and they replaced the AIS motor. They said it was not
bad enough to trigger a code, but was sluggish when they hooked test
equipment up to it. When I got the truck back it seemed to run with more
pep. Since then, twice on the same exit ramp the truck has died again.
I noticed I had about half a tank of gas the last time it happened. I'm
going, again, back to the dealership, but wanted to see if anyone had any
problems with their '00, 4.7s like this, and see if anyone had
suggestions on what the problem is. I already got some thoughts from
Shane's and Austin's responses to Kyle's e-mail. Thank guys. Any
thoughts welcomed.
