Well, I normally don't get mixed up in these off-topic debates
but I have a different spin from what the media is pumping out.
California passed a price-fix bill back in 1996 that set
everyone in the state up for their current problems. Here's
how:

The Cali government (in their infinite wisdom) forced the power
companies to sell power at rates much lower than what they could
buy power for. For a little over four years, everyone got to
pay for cheap power and all the Californians were happy.
Meanwhile, the power companies were taking it in the shorts and
by this year, as most people have read, they lost some serious
cash. Why? Because they weren't allowed to pass along their
costs to their consumers gradually over time, like most other
businesses are allowed to do. The press are blaming the energy
crisis on de-regulation when in fact the de-regulation in
California was just a price fixing scheme. Now the governement
can come back in and say "see you do need us to regulate this
industry" and when in fact, their current control of it is the
problem. As to the blah, blah, blah, below, statistics can be
twisted, warped, and use to prove or disprove anything you want.
Dak content: that's why its so hard to believe what
aftermarket manufacturers claim.

Just my $0.02 . . . time for bed,
JY
