That all depends on one of my replies on that other board. Some
manufacturers use synthetics right off the bat. The question is: How long
have they run the engines before you actually get your truck? It's all
about the seating of the rings, etc. Some have done it at the first change
and some have done it at 100K miles. Some have had problems and some
haven't. I know this doesn't tell you what you want to hear but the choice
is yours. I've had synthetics in mine since 5K miles. After the first
1,000, I drove it hard occasionally to try and get everything seated (and to
have fun). At 5,000 I changed all the dino stuff out and put the Syntec in.
I'm now at 12K miles. I've changed twice since the 5K along with a new
filter each time. This change has already occurred. What I plan on doing
is changing the filter every 3K-3.5K miles and putting in a new qt each
time. I am going to hold off changing the oil until around 21K-22K miles.
At about 16K miles, I will send a sample to Blackstone Labs for analysis and
then again when I change out at 21K. Hopefully, I'll be able to see how
well this stuff holds up through a long change like that.

Subject: DML: Breakin Period and synthetics
A good question was brought up on the message boards and the replies have
gotten me a little worried.
I have recently changed over to Mobil 1 synthtic iol..(with Mobil 1 filter)
My truck has 800 miles on it. I am hearing that I sould have waited for
the truck to break in more. Should I drain and change back to regular oil
for a while or just leave it in?
