I need some advice on transmissions. I had mine rebuilt at 165k miles and
it has worked fine until this weekend. On the way back from north
Mississippi I heard a loud clunk and lost overdrive. By the time I got back
to Louisiana it would not engage in drive unless it was manually shifted
in. A mechanic friend of my brother's is going to pull it out tonight and
look at it but I am curious as to the possibility of putting in a 727. It's
a '94 club cab with a 318 and a 46rh transmission. Just wondering if any
one has problems with overdrive units going out and how much trouble it
would be to replace with a 727(ie different mounts, driveshaft lengthened,
etc)?
Please let me know asap as the tranny's coming out tonight and I need to
make a decision pretty quick. Until then I'm dakless and boy that hurts.
