I just cleaned it. It did twist, but not even an 1/8 if a turn. It returned
to it's origional position. Is this bad??

When you clean the IAC, make sure you get all the carbon off the end of the
pintle without twisting it, otherwise, for sure, you'll need a new one.

Oh, i missed that one. I checked the IAT, it looked fine. I'll take your
advise on the IAC and see what happens. Say I do fix it, does the CE light
just go away, or does it have to be reset??

The IAC is different than the IAT. The IAC goes on the back of the TB. The
IAT's stock location is the intake manifold. I believe the IAC can only be
bought at the dealer and is about $100. The IAT is just a temperature
sensor where the IAC is actually a little motor that is activated by the PCM
to control the idle speed. There's a little pintle in the IAC that adjusts
the amount of air or lack thereof in a part of the TB that controls the idle
speed.

Ok Chris,

There's one of three conditions that can cause this:

1) TB is dirty. Remove TB and clean throttle blades and make sure blades
aren't sticking. Clean around MAP sensor and TPS. Remove and clean the
pintle on the IAC without twisting it.

Done. The TB is only about a month old.

2) Check around intake manifold for any vacuum leaks including power brake
booster line.

I believe everything there is ok.

3) If you checked everything else and still have a problem you may need a
new IAC.

Ok, this is quite possible. Do you think that pulling this code at the same
time my open element air filter came off are related?? I do. I looked down
the TB, everything looks good. How much is a new IAC, or should I just get
one of Bernd's magic boxes??? TIA

Ok, the code is 25. According to the DML page, this means, A shorted or open
condition detected in one or more of the idle air control motor circuits.
or Actual idle speed does not equal target idle speed. This is from the '96
FSM. Could someone check their '97 FSM to see if it is the same?? I
appreciate it. Also, when the truck idles, I notice that it kind of bounces
between about 600 RPM and 1000 RPM.This only happens when the engine is hot.
It idles fine after a cold start. A consistant 800 or 900 RPM. All and any
advise is appreciated. That CE light is annoying. TIA.
