I'd just replace the whole CV axle. trying to rebuild just the outer joint
isn't really worth it. You have to remove and replace it just like putting
in a whole new CV axle, the parts are nearly as much(if they're even
available), and it is much harder. I've never done one on a dakota, but I
have done many Z-71's and FWD cars.I think the ones for a Z-71 run a little
more than $200. I've never done one that was really hard. Pretty
straightforward. If the boot's been cut/torn, plan on getting messy! HTH,
