David, remember that the 4.7L replaced the 5.2L, and the 3.7L(A downsized
4.7L) will replace the 3.9L(a downsized 5.2L). If the 4.7L vs 5.2L battle is
any indication, you might have a tough time "dusting" a 3.7L similarly
equipped truck. The 3.7L posts some pretty impressive numbers, of course we
all know that's on paper, but that's really all we have to judge with right
now. I personally hope that the 3.7L does not flop badly, because it's not
like they're going to go back to the 3.9L if they do. That would just cause
a problem in the manufacture of Dakotas/ Jeep products. I hope the 3.7L does
well for them and keeps these trucks alive. I'm not putting down a 3.9L,
they are 2 cyl short of a 318, which I regard as one of the best engines
ever built! I just know that the times they are a changing and we must move
on! Would I have ordered a 318 in my truck over a 4.7L if it was available?
I sure would have!, but I realized that this new engine wasn't "junk", and
it has fared very well since it has been out. I think the 3.7L is a good
thing.
