Are you absolutely sure about that? Something doesn't add up here.
The collar on the 370-180 is just under a half an inch wider than
the stocker. Did you trim it? Doesn't seem likely that they'd change
the intake manifold or thermostat housing design after '96, plus I'm sure
I would have heard about that from the folks with my MPI kit.
It might be possible to just sit the 370-180 in place and bolt the
housing down over it, but it seems like that's an invitation for leaks.
Why not just use the t-stat that was designed for that orifice?
I'm looking at a 370-180 (brand new, still in its packaging), a
'96 stock intake manifold, and the Stant t-stat that was in the '96
manifold. The collar on the 370-80 is much too wide to fit into the
machined recess in the intake.
