face it guys if we all drove only what we needed 99% of us would be driving
Neons. After all does it really take a V8 with all the mods to drive back
and forth to work? Not bagging on anyone after all I have the 4.7 4X4 and
drive 3 miles to work on pavement everyday.

Quit thinking short term and start thinking long term. Buying a more
fuel efficient car may cost more now, but it will pay for itself
later.

What's going on here is called profiteering, also known as price
gouging. It's the dirty little secret of capitalism which some try to
sweep under the rug and pretend doesn't exist. The question isn't
whether the government is going to regulate capitalism, it already is
regulating capitalism and has been for a long time (e.g. anti-trust
laws). The question is how much regulation. You have hit upon
something that cries out for government regulation. Unfortunately, the
oil company administration in power in Washington now is not going to
even come close to doing anything about it.
