a/c blower fan problems

I've been having some problems with my blower controllers for vent/recirculate/floor/defrost etc. etc. I"m drivin' down the interstate, and the blower controller changes from the front vent's to
the floor... that gives??? I pushed the buttons to redirect the air and it finally rectified itself... what gives????
