3 inch is choking it? I work at a well known exhuast shop and I have
experimented with 3'' and 2.5'' on my 3.9. 3'' was the same horsepower as the
2.5 (dyno proven) With the 3 inch you will loose torque especially in the low
end 0-2500 rpms. If you want more power after headers and a cat back, switch
to a high flow cat. It will also change the sound a small amount. Fallow this
guide for exhast pipe size for mandrel bends:
                                                 In/out
In/out
ENGINE SIZE Hp Single Exhuast Dual Exhuast
200-250 cid 100-200 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 2 to 2 1/4
250-300 cid 150-250 2 1'2 to 3 2 to 2 1/2
300-350 cid 200-350 2 1/2 to 3 2 1/4 to 2 1/2
