Yes, I've heard about it already. Doesn't happen to them all though. I
haven't had a problem....yet. Doesn't just affect the airbag, also the
remote radio controls, and horn.

Subject: DML: Recall on Clockspring?

Anyone hear about this? Rather interesting:

Component: INTERIOR SYSTEMS:PASSIVE RESTRAINT:OTHER PARTS
Manufacturer: DAIMLERCHRYSLER CORPORATI
Mfg. Campaign #: 982
Year: 2000
Make: DODGE TRUCK
Model: DAKOTA
Potential Number of Units Affected: 409000
Manufactured From: MAY 2000 To: JUN 2000
Year of Recall: '01
Type of Report: Vehicle
Summary:

Vehicle Description: Pickup trucks. Sound deadener material internal to
the clockspring could become detached from the clockspring cover and
housing.

When this occurs, the material could interfere with the clockspring ribbon
and cause an open circuit. The driver air bag system will become disabled
and the air bag warning lamp will illuminate on the instrument panel.

Dealers will replace the clockspring assembly. DaimlerChrysler has not yet
provided an owner notification schedule. Owners who take their vehicles to
an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the
free remedy within a reasonable time should contact DaimlerChrysler at
1-800-843-1403. Also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration's Auto Safety Hotline at 1-888-DASH-2-DOT
(1-888-327-4236).
