All auto-trans Daks w/ 4.7 come with the 45RFE multispeed ("The
multi-slushie") trans. Two 2nd gear ratios, one for acceleration and one
for downshifting (towing, passing).
The TCM does retard the timing on moderate to wot. At WOT, its like hitting
a rev limiter, allowing 1-2 shift. A trans tech at a jeep dealer told me
that this was mainly incorporated to keep from damaging the trans, on hard
shifts.
And he told me that the trans does actually "slip" into shifts. Designed
for a smother ride. Remember, this trans was initially designed for the
Grand Cherokee.
I thought I heard that Hypertech was coming out with a TCM chip so that we
could change the shifting qualities, but I havent heard of anything further.
