If the tire was damaged on the sidewall, the cord body would have
ruptured, causing a bulge outwards in the sidewall of the tire, in most
cases this split will go from tread to bead. No bulge, probably no
damage. The only thing you can do is check it in the future in case it
might have slightly weakend the cord body, leading to future failure.
A chunk of rubber out of the sidewall is not considered a requirement
for tire replacement unless the cord body has been exposed.
